The use of body worn cameras has been an ongoing topic of discussion in global law enforcement since at least the mid-2000’s. Whilst adoption of the technology has been mixed since then, in this article we examine the market potential and evidence for and against their use. The introduction of body worn cameras is intended to build trust between law enforcement and the public through providing recorded evidence on how both the police and public conducted themselves when being cautioned or arrested. The cameras should prove the behavior of both parties in these incidences and play an important role in improving the relationship between them. In the USA, the proposed Justice in Policing Act of 2020 will make it compulsory for “federal uniformed police officers to have body-worn cameras”.
