Several smart building startups will trial energy efficiency, HVAC optimization, and energy storage technology across Amazon fulfillment centers and warehouses in Europe after winning funding in this year’s Amazon Sustainability Accelerator (ASA). The 2024 ClimateTech Pilot Challenge has welcomed startups that have moved beyond prototype testing and are working towards generating initial revenue and growing operations (Tech Readiness Level 6 and above). Seven startups in the smart buildings space have been awarded the chance to work on a pilot project directly with parts of Amazon’s business. A typical pilot for emerging technologies could earn them from $50,000 to $2 million, depending on duration and scope, according to the initial announcement in March 2024.
