How Do AI & Policy Impact Building Energy Use & Emissions?

In this research note, we take an in-depth look at a new study published in Nature Journal that evaluates Artificial Intelligence’s (AI) potential for reducing energy consumption and emissions in the building sector, alongside energy policy and technology development, to model AI’s impact in various scenarios. Based on the assumption that AI can reduce cost premiums and, therefore, increase the penetration of energy efficiency technology in buildings, the study found that adopting AI could reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions by approximately 8% to 19% by 2050.
